Copies go back into Photos
New
- Verified copies are imported into Photos automatically, into the same albums and with the same Favorite, Hidden, date and location as the original.
- Titles, captions and keywords are copied through Photos’ scripting support, then read back and compared.
- Every copy gets keywords of your choice, “VidFeather, Compressed” by default, so a Smart Album can collect them.
- After import, each copy is read back from Photos and compared with its original. Differences are listed in the job notes.
- Processed originals are collected in a “To be deleted” album.
- “Move Originals to Recently Deleted…” on the Completed screen and on each row, plus an option to do it when the queue finishes. macOS confirms every time.
- Free and Pro. Scanning, estimates and Compare are unlimited; three videos can be compressed in full for free.
- “Start Queue Automatically” begins encoding as soon as clips are added.
Improved
- Copies you already made are recognized during a scan and shown as processed. Rescan the library with ⇧⌘R.
- Completed jobs show the copy’s thumbnail.
- Clicking the Dock icon reopens the window.
- Photos is launched in the background when needed, without taking over the screen.
Fixed
- A warning appears before moving an original to Recently Deleted when its copy is no longer in Photos.
- A copy sitting in Recently Deleted no longer counts as present.
The app was renamed from MediaSlim to VidFeather in this release.
Timing, rotation and quiet mode
Improved
- Quiet mode can be switched on or off in the middle of a clip and takes effect right away.
- Frame timing is read from the video itself, and Dolby Vision metadata is checked against the frame actually on screen.
- Rotation is stored precisely, and all of the iPhone’s per-frame tracks are carried over on clips that are not rotated.
- The time zone of the original is kept in the copy’s date.
- Clips without an embedded creation date keep the date shown in Photos.
Fixed
- Preview players stop when their window closes.
- The quality slider in the inspector responds across its whole length again.
- A second copy of the app running at the same time no longer removes the first one’s work in progress.
A new app around a new idea
New
- The step-by-step assistant is replaced by a three-pane library browser: sources, a sortable list with thumbnails, and an inspector.
- An encoding queue that survives restarts, with pause, cancel, retry and drag-to-reorder.
- iPhone Dolby Vision is kept: the metadata of every frame is carried over and verified frame by frame.
- The iPhone’s scene brightness track is carried over, so HDR copies are not brighter than the originals.
- Compare: up to six versions of a 5 to 20 second sample, side by side or flipped in place.
- Presets: Original Quality, Balanced, Compact, Maximum Savings and Custom, with any size and frame-rate limit.
- Quick and Accurate size estimates from short samples encoded with the real settings.
- Quiet mode keeps the fan under a speed you choose.
- Local files and folders can be added alongside the Photos library.
First version
New
- A step-by-step assistant: scan the Photos library for large videos, pick them from a list sorted by size, run the batch, read the summary.
- Compresses them to 1080p HEVC, keeping date, location and camera details, and checks every result.
- Keeps camera make and model on videos from cameras such as Fujifilm (September 1).
A private release under the name MediaSlim.
